With much anticipation and excitement, the new Nissan Navara NP300 pickup will be making its debut in the Philippines towards the end of Q1 next year. This was confirmed by Nissan PH president and Managing Director Toti Zara during a media exposure trip to the Nissan plant in Thailand.

We drove the new Navara pickup in Chang Mai, Thailand last July and found it quite impressive in terms of features, styling and actual performance.

Zara also revealed that the Philippines will be getting a total of 7 variants for the 2015 Nissan Navara NP300, all powered by the new YD25DDTi 2.5-liter common rail diesel with variable geometry turbo engine in Mid (163 PS) and High (190 PS) versions. It will be mated to either a first-in-class 7-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual gearbox.

For suspension and handling, it will be the first 1-ton pickup introduced with coil spring suspension on all four corners. The rear suspension will be spec’d with a five-link coil-based suspension in lieu of the traditional leaf spring setup found in competitor trucks. NPI decided this on the fact that most buyers in the Philippines are lifestyle owners that prefer a pickup truck with better ride comfort. Top trims will also benefit from electronic driving aids like hill start assist, hill descent control, traction control and vehicle dynamics control.

The exterior will be exactly the same as the stylish ones we tested featuring the V-motion design language highlighted by its prominent the grill. It will come with first-in-class LED projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights (for higher variants). The tailgate will feature a duckbill spoiler which engineers claim to improve aerodynamics giving better fuel economy.

The Philippine version will not come with navigation as standard like the Thai-spec we tested. Although it will retain amenities like dual-zone climate control, push-button ignition, electronic adjust seats, reverse camera, rear A/C vents (as found in Nissan passenger cars), and floor mounted rear cupholders with an umbrella holder.
