Updated Mu-X, D-Max pack new, more powerful Blue Power turbodiesel

As Isuzu Philippines Corporation celebrates its 20th anniversary, the heavily revamped Isuzu Mu-X makes its debut in the Philippines. Like the model unveiled in Thailand back in March this year, the local-spec 2018 Isuzu Mu-X not only gets a host of changes inside and out, there is also an all-new engine under the hood. This new engine is also powers the 2018 D-Max

Internally known as the 4JJ1-TCX, Isuzu dubs the new turbodiesel engine Blue Power and it packs more power than the present model. From the 163 PS found in the current model, the Blue Power turbodiesel gets a significant bump to 177 PS. Torque meanwhile is retained at 380 Nm. This engine has been available in Thailand from the start of production of the Mu-X and D-Max. Aside from the new engine, the old five-speed automatic has been replaced by a six-speed unit in the Mu-X, also with sequential shift mode. The five-speed automatic is carried over for the D-Max.

For 2018, the Mu-X gets a reshaped front bumper with new lower accents. Illumination is provided by Bi-LED headlights which incorporates the daytime running lights within the units. Complementing the new light signature is mildly redesigned grill with more creases at its corners. There are also changes made to the rear of the revamped Mu-X, namely new lower bumper mouldings and new tail lights which now feature an LED strip. Its side profile on the other hand retains the look of the current model but it does ride on new 18-inch alloy wheels, replacing the old 17-inch wheels. The D-Max on the other hand has no new exterior changes.

Inside, drivers are greeted by a new instrument cluster with a restyled vehicle information display. Isuzu added more soft touch materials and the seats also get a makeover. 2018 also adds more features to the Mu-X, namely Auto-Headlight Leveling, Hill Descent Control and a redesgined 8-inch screen entertainment system with USB link and text-to-speech navigation. Moving to the D-Max, it gains Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control, as well as more USB ports in the cabin.

Isuzu Philippines will release official pricing for the Blue Power diesel equipped 2018 mu-X and D-Max next month.
