All-new 2018 Toyota Yaris Ativ launched in Thailand

Toyota expands sedan lineup in Thailand with the Yaris Ativ

Toyota Thailand has officially launched an all-new B-segment sedan in the form of the Yaris Ativ. Underneath the sheet metal, the Yaris Ativ is essentially based on the current generation Toyota Vios. However, it does have a different engine in order to comply with Thailand's eco car rules.

Previously, leaked images of the 2018 Yaris Ativ have already surfaced giving us a first look at Toyota's latest B-segment sedan. With clearer photos, we take a closer look at the details of the Yaris Ativ. Upon first glance, it may simply look like a re-styled Vios. However, it does feature a more curvier and aggressive overall look.

In front, a larger lower grill dominates the front fascia which are then complemented by the upswept headlights. The fog lights are then integrated as part of the large grill. Moving towards the side, it sees more character lines than the Vios. As for the rear, the Yaris Ativ has a unique set of tail lights which are significantly longer than that found of the Vios. Despite having a close resemblance, the Yaris Ativ uses only a few of the Vios' panels.

The major difference from the Vios would be the Yaris Ativ's engine. All five variants available in Thailand – J Eco, J, E, G and S – will be powered by the 3NR-FE 1.2-liter dual VVT-i four cylinder engine mated to a super CVT-i transmission. It produces 86 PS along with 108 Nm of torque. There will be no manual transmissions offered.

Inside the Yaris Ativ, one feels right at home as the design is nearly identical to that found on the Yaris. Fabric seats come standard on all variants, with few color choices. Only the range topper S comes equipped with a seven-inch touchscreen, automatic air-conditioning, 4.2-inch multi-info display and keyless entry and start.

For safety, the Yaris Ativ comes with seven airbags, VSC, traction control, hill start assist, and ABS. All these features come standard on all variants of the B-segment sedan, making sure occupants are always safe.
