BMW gives early glimpse of X7 on the production line

BMW begins to roll out pre-production X7 for testing

In 2017, our spies managed to provide us loads of photos of the upcoming BMW X7 undergoing tests. However, these spy photos are often shot from afar with the SUV fully camouflaged. BMW however, has recently released photos of the X7 while on the production line, giving us a better idea of what to expect.

Poised to become BMW's flagship SUV, the X7 is currently still in development with an official debut expected to be made at the end of 2018. Currently the vehicles seen on the production line are pre-production models – the camouflaged cars our spies saw testing – before they are wrapped with camo in house.

Based on the photos releaed by BMW, the X7's design remains faithful to that of the concept which debuted earlier this year. There are narrow LED headlights with large dual-kidney grill front and center. There also appears to be an intake vent that runs the length of the front bumper. Unlike the concept however, we do get to see that it will have traditional door mirrors and door handles.

An engine bay shot shows one pre-production model to be powered by a V8, likely the 4.4-liter twin turbo engine found on other BMW models. Meanwhile, an interior shot shows that the X7 comes with two large sunroofs.

Before fully debuting the X7, BMW has to complete testing of the model before it can be green lighted for production. Like other X-models, the X7 will also be produced in Spartanburg, USA and will join the X3, X4, X5 and X6 as the flagship SUV.
