Still wondering whether the tenth-generation Civic will ever arrive here? Fret no more as Honda Cars Philippines Incorporated (HCPI) recently released a of the all-new Civic’s eventual arrival in the country.
First making its debut back in September 2015, the 2016 Civic features a sophisticated exterior design that Honda claimed will ‘recapture the sporty characteristic of the compact’. In addition, its new chassis and body were specifically designed for the new sporty engines.
Design-wise, the front end gets the brand’s new ‘Solid Wing Face’ while the side has a fastback-inspired tail. The rear, on the other hand still has the distinct taillights that now extend over to the trunk. In terms of size, Honda stated that the 2016 Civic will be 51mm wider, 25mm lower and a 30mm longer wheelbase than the outgoing generation.
Better visibility, legroom and cabin amenities will be present on the all-new Civic, along with improved NVH properties as claimed by Honda.
Available engines for the Philippine market haven’t been specified yet though the US market is available with two new engines. First is a 2.0-liter VTEC inline-four that puts out 158 PS at 6000 rpm and 187 Nm of torque at 4200 rpm. It can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or CVT.
The other engine is the 1.5-liter direct-injected turbocharged VTEC inline-four that cranks out 174 PS at 5500 rpm and 219 Nm of torque available between 1800 – 5500 rpm.
