It's the end of an era over at Lamborghini as the Italian super sports has rolled out the very last Lamborghini Gallardo at their plant in Sant’Agata Bolognese. In the Lamborghini line, the Gallardo is the 'baby', slotting in under the Murcielago until 2010 and its successor, the Aventador.
The Gallardo story started in 2003 at the Geneva Motor Show, proudly showcasing its design and style as penned by Centro Stile Lamborghini. The baby Lambo featured the company's high-revving V10 engine and four wheel drive.
Over the years, the Gallardo has evolved with the latest in design updates and numerous special performance editions. Of note are versions such as the Superleggera (Superlight), the Spyder (convertible), the Super Trofeo Stradale, and even a rear-wheel drive Valentino Balboni edition (named after the famed Lamborghini test driver). The last Gallarto to roll off the line after its 10 year run is a Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante destined for a private collector.
In Lamborghini's 50 year history, the automaker has made just 30,000 automobiles, with 14,022 of them being Gallardos.
The successor to the successful Gallardo will be the Cabrera, and is expected to be launched next year.
