The Mapua Institute of Technology, in cooperation with Aguila Auto Glass, participated in the most recent Shell Eco-Marathon Asia (SEMA) competition held around the Quirino Grandstand. Mapua and Aguila Glass have been partners in the Shell Eco-Marathon for the past three years, scoring podium positions since then.
“We decided to become partners with Aguila Auto Glass because it is one of the most reputable companies in the industry today, and it will help a lot in our promotions as well as our advocacy in energy efficiency. Aguila Auto Glass is also known to provide the best quality and affordable products and services,” said Jude Ricafort of Team Aguila Mapua.
For the 2016 running of SEMA, Team Aguila Mapua – Aguila Auto Glass finished second out 35 competitors and taking the class win in the fiercely-fought Prototype-Gasoline category. Team Cardinals – Aguila achieved an efficiency record of 335 kilometers per liter of gasoline. It is the current best record for the Philippines and the first time to reach the 300km/l mark.
The car used for this year is Team Aguila’s Aguila III which is an improved and developed version of last year’s AguilaII. Despite the use of a longer aluminum chassis and bigger engine largely carried over from Aguila II, Aguila III sports enhancements to its drivetrain and a significant reduction in weight. Like all its previous SEMA Aguila prototypes, the Aguila III uses lightweight but highly rigid carbon fiber for the body shell, while some weight was saved by not using fuel injection this year, because of advancements Team Aguila Mapua was able to make in the fuel delivery of their engine’s simpler and lighter carburetor.
