Mitsubishi Motors introduces the all-new Strada 4x4
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines announced the launching of the all new Strada 4x4 pick up. This is already the 4th generation of the L200 series and Mitsubishi Motors is confident that with its new styling and outstanding performance it will again be a top choice in the 4x4 pick up segment. It can be recalled that the previous Strada model introduced in 1997, was the best selling 4x4 pick up for seven consecutive years.
The all new Strada has evolved not just as a pick up, but also as an alternate everyday workhorse vehicle which can be used for business, family and recreation. With this, Mitsubishi Motors gave it a fresh and exciting styling, superb running performance, best in class cabin roominess, a comfortable ride and SUV interior styling and trim.
The exterior styling of the all-new Strada is really very impressive and distinctly unique from other pick-ups in the market. It creates a dynamic, road-hugging stance underlined by its bulging fender flares accentuated by its rugged and commanding front design which is similar to the Pajero Evolution's design identity. The all-new Strada now measures 5000 x 1800 x 1780 (length x width x height in mm).
The cabin space of the all-new Strada has considerably grown and proves to be a class leader. Interior dimension has grown from the previous Strada by: 150 mm more for interior length, 60 mm more rear legroom, 25 mm more front headroom and 13 mm more rear headroom. The all-new Strada GLS' interior offers top-of-its-class comfort and convenience due to all-power amenities including the stylish dashboard, the first of its class 3-mode opening slide vent window, high grade sport fabric seat, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knobs, silver-painted center and power window control panels, auto climate control, and a multi-information display monitor. Other amenities are high contrast meter cluster with silver accent rings, an FM/AM Single in-dash CD/MP3 player that is iPod ready via its USB interface, ignition key cylinder illumination, door courtesy lamps, and a host of useful and convenient compartments.
With regards to performance, the all new Strada is equipped with the new 2.5 liter 4D56 Mitsubishi Direct Injection Diesel with Hyper Common Rail DOHC 16-valve Turbo Intercooled engine. Mitsubishi Motors has used the bore and stroke of the proven and reliable 4D56 engine and strengthened its internal components to withstand the additional power that results from the DOHC, 16-valve and Direct Injection Hyper Common Rail System. Maximum power output from this 2.5 liter engine is at 136PS @ 3,500 rpm and maximum torque is 314 N-m @ 2,000 rpm. The adoption of the DI-D Common Rail system enables the all-new Strada to deliver high output, flatter torque curve, low fuel consumption, clean emissions, and quiet operation. This new Direct Injection Diesel Common Rail engine is already Euro-2 compliant and is properly matched with the current diesel fuel in the country.
In addition, this new engine is mated to either an advanced 5-speed transmission or to a 4-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. Either transmission delivers driving power through the Easy Select 4WD system. This rally proven four wheel drive system enables the driver to choose three drive modes namely. "2H" for smooth, paved highways, "4H" for wet and slippery surfaces, "4LLc" for rough tracks and rock climbing. Users can also shift on the fly from "2H" to "4H" and back even while traveling at speeds up to 100 km/h.
Suspension system of the all-new Strada has also been completely redesigned. The front suspension uses a double wishbone with coil spring lay-out which replaces the old torsion bar-type springs. This new type uses enhances driving comfort and stability even off the road. The rear lay-out uses an above-the-axle type thereby also producing the same benefit as the new front suspension.
The safety system of the all-new Strada has been greatly improved by using Mitsubishi's exclusive Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) frame. The RISE frame incorporates front and rear crumple zones with reinforced beams to absorb collision force and direct it away from the vehicle's interior. Should the GLS's 245/70 R16 tires come close to the limit of traction during hard braking, the ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution will function to prevent them from locking up and making the Strada still maneuverable. Dual SRS front airbags, anti-trapping power windows, and tailgate mounted third brake lamp are standard safety items on both Strada GLS and GLX.
The all-new Strada will be available starting end September at all Mitsubishi dealers nationwide and will be available in 3 variants, the standard GLX with manual transmission, and a high grade GLS with both manual and automatic transmission options . The suggested retail prices are as follows: Strada GLX M/T Php1,050,000; Strada GLS M/T Php1,200,000; Strada GLS A/T Php1,250,000.
Colors available for the GLS and GLX models are Solid White, Cool Silver, Metallic Red, Dark Gray Mica, and Medium Blue Mica.
