Modellista turns Hiace into VW Type 2 inspired 'Relaxbase'

Hiace Relaxbase is a Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi inspired van

Toyota's Modellista vehicle customization division recently revealed a new 'Relaxbase' version of the Toyota Hiace, which celebrates its 50th anniversary as well.

Dubbed as a 'Neo Retro Fun Box', the Relaxbase features a v-shaped nose design inspired heavily by the iconic Volkswagen Type 2 from over half a century ago. The v image is created with chrome hood trims, an optional front grill and blackout contrast paint that extends to the pillars which add a floating roof effect as well.

Inside, the neo-retro styled van gets two-tone upholstery, and white woodgrain panel inserts.

Standard Type I versions will come with carpeted flooring. For more adventurous users, the Type II version comes with a special plastic flooring with an aluminum scuff plate. Additional options for Type II include quarter trims with a storage box and an auxiliary battery with power outlets. The front bumper guard, fender garnish, roof rack, rear ladder and bed kit are optional add ons, as well.

The look is finished off with an exclusive 'Relaxbase' decal and reto-styled alloy wheels.

The Modellista Hiace Relaxbase is only available for the Japanese market. It starts at 3,338,280 yen for the Type I and 3,582,360 yen for the Type II.
