Tamiya Celebrates Toyota’s Le Mans Win With TS050 Mini 4WD Model

Your kids can get a piece of Toyota’s winning Le Mans racer, the TS050 Hybrid

In an interesting development for both scale modeling and car enthusiast circles, Tamiya have recently revealed another quirky model to be added to their model lineup. Celebrating their recent win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it seems only fitting that Toyota’s Gazoo Racing TS050 Hybrid be immortalized by the famed japanese plastic model company. While a static 1:24 scale model ought to do it justice, Tamiya’s TS050 Hybrid can stay true to its racing roots – by being turned into a Mini 4WD model.

That’s right, the Gazoo Racing TS050 Hybrid finds its way into Tamiya’s signature slot racing tracks by way of the new Mini 4WD Pro series chassis. Having a polycarbonate body and matching rollers to guide it along the track, anyone and everyone can enjoy the miniscule Le Mans racer as it tries not to fly off various technical Tamiya circuits.

To be specific, the TS050 Hybrid will be rolling on an MA Pro Chassis, this new line of chassis requires a specific two-pronged Pro Motor that is mounted smack dab in the middle of the chassis. This allows for better balance and stability since all the weight is centered instead of the usual rear bias on conventional Mini 4WDs.

Of course, the TS050 can still be modified with various accessories from Tamiya’s shelves. Should you wish to speed up your Mini 4WD, everything from new bumpers, rollers, motors, and even gearsets can still be replaced on this new kit. Looking at the kit though, it doesn’t look like it’ll fit larger FRP pieces on the front and sides considering the girth of this particular shell – some trimming may be required if you choose to do so.

If you’re familiar with Mini 4WDs as of late, you’ll know that this isn’t Tamiya’s first foray into making real-life models for the mostly fictional lineup. Several years ago Tamiya have also released the Daihatsu Copen kei car as a Mini 4WD model. According to our sources from Lil's Hobby Shop, the local distributor for Tamiya, we can expect the Gazoo Racing TS050 Hybrid to hit the shelves sometime around January 2019.

And to think development for this was happening right under our noses too.
