Ever found the current-generation Honda Civic Type R was a bit too conservative? Well, the guys over at Halfords Yuasa Racing have given the FK8 a complete racing makeover to make it ready for the upcoming season of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).
“It's been a massive effort by the team over the off-season to transition to the new Honda Civic Type R and to see all of those hours labour bear fruit is just a fantastic feeling. The car provides an excellent platform to work with and we're sure it'll prove a potent package when it hits the track in anger at Brands Hatch,” said James Rodgers Team Manager of Halfords Yuasa Racing.
Compared to the road-going FK8 which already looks intimidating, the BTCC-spec Civic Type R now looks more hardcore as a dedicated race car. The touring car comes with a revised set of aero such as revised front and rear bumpers, wider fenders and a large fixed rear wing. Though hidden from plain sight, the Honda factory backed team have also installed new suspension, and larger brakes to help the car handle well on track.
Under the hood, it will feature the same 2.0-liter turbo engine but now produces 355 PS as per BTCC regulations. Power will then be sent to a six-speed sequential transmission powering the front wheels. Inside, expect it to have the standard safety equipment such as a roll cage, bucket seats and a racing harness.
Currently, the car is still undergoing testing at the Parcmotor Castellolí circuit in Spain hence the lack of a livery. The final cars will be revealed in Halford livery on March 22. Driving for the team this season will be three-time BTCC champion Matt Neal, and new signing driver Dan Cammish.
Round one of the 2018 BTCC season will begin on April 7 at Brands Hatch in the United Kingdom.
